Audiencefor string octet (9:15)

Audience is a lyrical work for a string octet that is inspired by the eponymous painting by Thomas Schütte (1981, 110x219 cm), a work that was exhibited the Museum De Pont (Tilburg, The Netherlands) in 2006. The painting shows us18 silhouettes of (young) spectators, that are in full expectation waiting to the start of a performance or a movie. Even if we do not see the mimics of their faces, there is a lots of the expectants their attention loaded into the artwork.
During the performance the idea was to project live-images of the performing string octet exactly on the drawn screen of the painting, to give us a great unity between these different forms of art, like painting and music as whole. The degree of performing-difficulty and the music-style were determined by the commission, because the composition was written for young musicians who are interested in contemporary music.
